Our wine tonight was a Bordeaux Blend tasting at our favorite local wine bar, Bond Street Wines in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
First was 2016 Margaux from Château Mongravey.
65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
Average age of the vines 25 years!
Aged 14 months in French Oak.
13% ABV.
Red berries on the nose, Earthy on the tongue with notes of charred oak and black licorice.
Rated 92 points by James Suckling.
$40 a bottle.
Second was 2016 Pessac-Leognan from Château Picque,
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot.
13.5% ABV
Fruit forward nose with flavor notes of black currants, oak, and smoke.
My favorite of the three Bordeaux blends tasted tonight.
$40 a bottle.
92 points.
Final of the night was the 2011 Saint-Estèphe from La Chapelle de Meyney.
Tannic woodsy nose with flavor notes of leather, black licorice, and peppery spice.
Cabernet Sauvignon is dominate in this blend with Merlot.
13.5% ABV.
$40 a bottle.
90 Points.
