Our wine yesterday was Black Spanish, an estate red wine from Enoree River Vineyard in Newberry, South Carolina.

This American hybrid grape varietal is known by many names, Black Spanish, Spanish Black, Lenoir, Jacquez , El Paso, and others. The grape produces red juice, and a rich fruit forward wine. This estate wine from Enoree River is an excellent example of the bold wine which can be produced from Black Spanish grape. Nose is of black cherry, perhaps a bit musky. On the tongue it’s very fruit forward, with explosive notes of fruit jam, blackberry, elderberry, and cherry. Lingers sweet on the tongue, but not overpowering.

Winery Escapade scoring on the American Wine Society twenty point scale.
